Photograph of a Temperence Meeting held at Hurlford (probably at Galston Road near The Cross) at a time when their was a very strong Temperence Movement in the UK and especially in Scotland. Members held huge rallies against the taking of any sort of alcohol and I remember during the late 1940"s and 50s on Sundays you could not drink in your own village but had to attain the status of a "bone fide traveller" so that Galston folk travelled to Hurlford and Hurlford folk travelled to Galston all to attain the required status and get your "wee dram"
